May 18, 2015

The code and scope of the project has successfully been adjusted in order to properly fit guidelines, all that is needed left is to finalize the code to be able to integrate into the prototype. Furthermore, we have received our jacket, which we will be able to integrate with the finalized electronics in order to make a proper prototype. It will only take a few adjustments with the final product in order to make it ready for a demonstration.

Update: May 11, 2015

In this current state, we are unable to acquire data from any satellites through the GPS. This is probably an issue with the hardware, and less with the coding, unless there is an incompatibility with the coding. Other than that, we are successfully able to pull out the other codes for the  other software, and we are beginning to integrate the hardware and software together to make them work. We are currently working on development towards storing the serial data.

Update: April 13, 2015

The code for the Heart Monitor is successfully displaying raw data that is represented appropriately in Energia's serial monitor. However, the values will not display properly in the GUI that came along with the heartbeat monitor hardware. This is mainly because of how the original GUI was designed to use many of Arduino's features, which are routed differently in the MSP430 Launchpad. As such, we need to recode some parts to make it more compatible with the Launchpad and Energia.

Update: March 30, 2015

Progress as of last update:
Prototype of the bike jacket lights are displayed below:

As of now, programming for the bike jacket is formatted as such, where the button will trigger the appropriate blinker light. However, at this moment, the blinker is only activating when the button is pushed down, which is an issue which we are working to solve.

The following parts arrived today:

Pulse Sensor
Yellow Lilypad LEDs x50
Blue Lilypad LEDs x5
Conductive Thread 30ft
Lilypad Button Board x3
MSP-EXP430FR5969 x2

Also, the DEV-MSP-SDCARD-BOOST was out of stock with the vendor, but one of our mentors, Trey, had one for us to use.

We were also provided with BOOSTXL-BATTPACK which could be used to run our product on a battery pack.

The MTK3339 is in the processed of being ordered,

Update: January 28, 2015

Today, we sent in orders for both our TI parts and non TI parts. This includes:

MSP-EXP430FR5969
MTK3339
DEV-MSP-SDCARD-BOOST
Pulse Sensor
Yellow Lilypad LEDs x50
Blue Lilypad LEDs x5
Conductive Thread 30ft
Lilypad Button Board x3

Also, we have decided to use a program called Earth Bridge in order to connect our GPS BoosterPack to Google Earth. Also, we learned that the SD Card Reader uses USI and USCI ports to connect to the launchpad.

Mission

Our newly-improved cyclist jacket will solve many of the most common issues faced by cyclists everywhere. The bike jacket's main feature will be turn signals which will indicate the cyclist's intended path. This feature will exponentially increase the safety of both cyclist and car drivers. The bike jacket will also include a heart rate monitor and will include several GPS capabilities. Once the cyclist returns home they will be able to view their heart rate throughout their trip and a map detailing the route they took.
